REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Maria Daniels 4/18/2018 8:25 AMWe are creatures of habit. I used to eat meat at most or all of my meals because it's what I was used to. It was the way I ate growing up. I think sometimes we do things to excess in our country. Now I don't consider meat a necessary component of each meal. You can get as many, if not more, of the same nutrients from plant-based foods. I eat meat occasionally but I buy higher quality when I do. Plant-based foods are more readily available and culturally acceptable than before. I think that helps with shifting mindsets about the way we eat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! What's next?
Maria Daniels 4/11/2018 8:32 AMWe are looking into better insulation for our house and adding insulation or weather-stripping to those areas of our home that seem to need it. At some point in the near future, the windows in our home will need to be replaced and we will choose energy-efficient windows. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Replace Manual ThermostatsHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for smart ones will positively impact your life?
Maria Daniels 4/11/2018 8:28 AMIt will save me money, be more efficient and make my home environment more comfortable. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Support Women-Owned BusinessesGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women?
Maria Daniels 4/10/2018 12:16 PMI can support more women-owned businesses in my community with my spending power. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesNow that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?
Maria Daniels 4/10/2018 12:15 PMI will view the dates more as a suggestion or guideline instead of a rule. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Support Nutrient ManagementHow does environmental quality influence your sense of community?
Maria Daniels 4/10/2018 12:13 PMDoing my part to help the environment makes it seems as if we're all in this together and that one person's efforts can make a difference. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?
Maria Daniels 4/10/2018 8:32 AMOther benefits of using smaller plates ... I could lose weight and I could save money by not having to prepare as much food.
