I learned that " If all women in developing regions with an unmet need for contraceptives were able to use modern methods, an additional 35 million abortions and 76,000 maternal deaths would be prevented every year."

I learned that when women have access to family planning tools, they are able to get an education and contribute to improving the wealth and health of their communities.

I learned that family planning is cost-effective: "There are clear economic benefits to investing in family planning. For every additional dollar that is invested in contraception, the cost of pregnancy-related care will be reduced by $2.22. In terms of socioeconomic benefits, achieving universal access to quality sexual and reproductive health services is estimated to yield returns of $120 for every dollar invested."

I learned that Irish women get abortions at the same rate as other European women, but have to travel abroad for it - making it a class issue that punishes the poor.

I wish I had pretended the things I do all the time were challenges (eat plant based meals, support women-owned businesses, composting) instead of clicking "I already do this." Apparently that is not in the spirit of this contest, and I agree that it would have been morally questionable, but apparently I'm competitive and *might* be less of a purist next time I do this. ;)

I was kinda thinking that as well.  Plus, it's easy to earn lots of points if you have $$$ to donate!

I'm shocked at how much food I waste. I compost and I eat mostly vegan meals with a lot of local ingredients that I buy in small portions, so I thought my food waste would be minimal. ...but I've been out to eat twice in the last two days and I've thrown away most of my fries and chips both times. I think I need to split meals when I go out to eat from now on.

Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

I'd rather spend it on better food - more local food, and more food from environmentally responsible sources.

...I'd also spend it on buying fancy beer.
