REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
anna giboney 4/18/2018 8:50 AMRather than spending this extra money on wasted food, I'd save it in my college funds so that when the time came to start college I'd be able to do so with less hesitation regarding my financial ability. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?
anna giboney 4/16/2018 9:55 PMEating quickly is one issue many people have and therefore, consume much more food than necessary. This unhealthy habit is linked to the amount of food that is originally on their plate. Most people feel satisfied when they are able to completely finish a meal, however if that means they are scarfing down the last few scraps, they are not eating healthily. Benefits of eating slower and minimizing the amount of food on one's plate include increasing the health of the individual and allowing their body to be happier with their eating choices. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
anna giboney 4/16/2018 9:39 PMMeat is a major part of North America's meal plan. This is in part due to the traditional american meal of a hamburger, fries, and a drink. Consuming massive amounts of meat daily is common for Americans, because we like a hearty meal that can be consumed quickly. Salads, wraps, and soups are not as filling and therefore, are less satisfying to the average American. This focus can be shifted if people cared more about their health and the nutrients they were putting into their bodies rather than just wanting a source of fuel. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
anna giboney 4/16/2018 9:17 PMA sustainable community is one in which products and reactants are not wasted, but instead can be reused for other purposes so that the neighborhood does not run out of supplies, nor would it produce excessive emissions. For this to be possible, devices such as the one in the provided video would be utilized to a greater extent and for waste other than food.
