REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Local Perennial BiomassClimate scientist Katharine Hayhoe states that "The reason we care about climate change is because it affects the people and places that we care about." What is happening (or will happen) in your area that will affect the people and places you care about?
Emily Greenstreet 4/25/2018 3:51 PMOnce of my favorite places to visit is the beach which is why I live on the Westside of Los Angeles. Our continued use of plastic significantly harms our oceans. I've lived in Los Angeles my entire life and have seen the drastic increase of plastics in our ocean. It's not a pleasant experience having a plastic bag latch onto your arm while swimming and it also saddens me to think of the different organisms that have been affected due to this pollution. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Learn about Temperate ForestsAs you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?
Emily Greenstreet 4/25/2018 3:46 PMSince the Drawdown EcoChallenge I've been more conscious of the daily decisions and choice I make that contribute to larger issues such as deforestation. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
Emily Greenstreet 4/25/2018 3:05 PMWave and tidal energy cost more than creating energy on solid land. I was surprised to find that this is still in the early stages of development. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?
Emily Greenstreet 4/20/2018 3:46 PMI'm not quite sure how geothermal energy could be used here in Los Angeles, but I was fortunate enough to visit Iceland "land of renewable energy" and it's truly amazing what they are able to produce with the geothermal energy. I would like to educate myself further on how this could be incorporated into my community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Emily Greenstreet 4/20/2018 3:42 PMA sustainable community is one that utilizes a closed loop systems where nothing is wasted. People will need to rethink their relationship with waste generation and move towards the goal of zero waste communities.
