We went to see the film Wasted last evening and it shows many ways to NOT create food waste.

this one is perhaps too easy as I buy from direct local farmers.
    How local is local?
The garden? rural local? over the hill?

Not to over post on your question "How local is local" Corinne. It's not easy to tell what NWEI meant by local food. It's possible that this challenge is more about taking on a new way of thinking about where one's food comes from and learning to go out of one's way to find it. I've learned an amazing amount in just the 4 days I've been involved in our Green Team, from my reading and from all that you and others on Eugene Green have posted. It's changing my way of thinking on a number of issues, and I thought I was pretty green already.

Good questions Corinne. Willamette Food and Farm provide stores with stickers that show one of three levels of local. Can't remember what the first two are but the third is Pacific Northwest. At one time people used 100 miles as a good distance for eating local. I have purchased organic, "local" produce in the last 3 days (for #65 Nutrient Management challenge) and I looked for the stickers that indicated they came from PNW farms or closer.
