REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Support Companies Leading in Green EnergyEvery dollar you put into solar or wind is a dollar not put into traditional financial institutions. You'll also be bolstering the fossil fuel divestment movement, too. What are some companies you know of that invest in green energy, and how can you support them?
Zenab Haq 4/25/2018 7:40 AMIkea, Google, Johnson & Johnson. We can support them by buying their products and services. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
Zenab Haq 4/25/2018 7:37 AMIt is the most expensive source of renewable energy but wave power could provide 25 percent of U.S. electricity -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about BiomassHad you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!
Zenab Haq 4/25/2018 7:35 AMNo, I had not heard about biomass technology. After reading about it, I realized I knew about the practice, just not the technical term for it. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Micro WindMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
Zenab Haq 4/25/2018 7:34 AMThere are many tall buildings in downtown that could house vertical axis turbines. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane DigestersWhat does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?
Zenab Haq 4/25/2018 7:33 AMA sustainable community would be way less dependent on plastics, oil, etc. A huge mindset change would need to occur for the U.S. to move away from these things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Solar Water ConsultationDiversifying our energy supply and improving public health are just two benefits of renewable energy. What other motivators inspire you to consider installing a solar water heater in your home?
-
Zenab Haq 4/25/2018 7:31 AMLast day of the challenge! Let's do this Team Walter P Moore! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Zenab Haq 4/24/2018 12:09 PMNever heard of silvopasture. Biggest advantage: Pastures strewn or crisscrossed with trees sequester five to ten times as much carbon as those of the same size that are treeless. Controlling the methane emissions of livestock is huge considering how many livestock animals there are all over the world. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Rooftop Solar ConsultationIdentify some ways in which modern human societies have become unsustainable. What kind of roles do individuals have in creating and changing practices in society?
Zenab Haq 4/24/2018 12:05 PM- plastic production
- reef destruction due to water pollution
- industrial agriculture
- increase in black carbon emissions
Individuals play a huge role in creating and changing practices. We can expect others to practice what we preach if we can't walk the walk. Every little bit helps. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Advocate for Solar InstallationHow does advocating for this type of technology connect to your values? How might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
Zenab Haq 4/24/2018 12:02 PMNot only will this save money on electricity in the long-run but it will help protect the environment, which are two things I'm all about. Better tax incentives and subsidies would help get more people looking into solar. As a millennial homeowner, I want to do this but it just isn't financially feasible for me at the moment. Hopefully soon!
