There's many ways to thoughtfully use our natural resources, and there's systems in place to do so. This challenge challenged me to flip through my old issues of Biomass mag. We need to support these systems, vote them into place, and do our part to make recycling work.

How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

Eating anything processed is possibly impacting deforestation. We're avid label readers, always looking for indications such as Rainforest Alliance Certifications. Also eating fresh and local to reduce possible deforestation.

Regarding bamboo. We've been using bamboo in kitchen ware, and absolutely love it! We've also grown it at a previous place we've lived. It's quite amazing. It is "a grass", and literally grows as fast as grass.

Composting success story...
A few years back, some friends of ours asked me and my wife to "house sit" their new home while they went on a mission trip. The home was newly built, the entire grounds was a barren disaster (from construction equipment, etc). Long story short, we rock-picked the grounds by hand, and composted everything, every day. We even added vermiculture to the mix. At first I felt bad dumping worms onto that "dirt", because at that point it was not much more than dead dirt. I'm happy to say though, that when our friends returned 2yrs later, they had a grounds full of living soil, veggies growing and a nice selection of pollinator-friendly perennials such as lavender and hyacinth. The transformation from dead dirt to living soil was amazing!

Well, well, well...The Challenge is expanding me! Found out today, the United States leads the world in the amount of electricity generated with geothermal energy. I had no idea. Thought it the leader would be Iceland, or one of the other Nordic countries.

I joined the Challenge because I feel we're all in this together. We're all sharing the same planet and we all need to responsibly share the stewardship of it together. By mindfully and purposefully living each day, in our own individual spheres and collectively in our own communities, we inherently create positive change! We can all deliver small, positive, daily input toward the Greater Good!
