Online Energy Audit
Multiple Solutions
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Materials
Recycle Everything I Can
#55 Household Recycling
I will recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Materials
Go Paperless
#70 Recycled Paper
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by opting into paperless billing and subscriptions.
Land Use
Support Indigenous Peoples' Land Management
#39 Indigenous Peoples' Land Management
I will donate to The Nature Conservancy, which works with Indigenous Peoples to secure land tenure and resource rights, support improved governance and local institutions, assist in natural resource mapping, planning and management; and strengthen livelihoods and sustainable economic development.
Women and Girls
Support Women-Owned Businesses
#62 Women Smallholders
I will support women-owned businesses when I shop this month.
Materials
Choose Recycled Paper
#70 Recycled Paper
If I have to buy paper products, I will only purchase products made from post-consumer recycled paper for my home or office.
Land Use
Forest-Friendly Foods 2
#5 Tropical Forests
I will replace or remove products in my current diet that are known to contribute to deforestation.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
#4 Plant-Rich Diet
I will enjoy 2 meatless or vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.
Food
Support Local Food Systems
#4 Plant-Rich Diet
I will source 1 meal(s) from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Land Use
Buy Bamboo
#35 Bamboo
When they are available, I will purchase products made from bamboo instead of wood, plastic, or metal.
Transport
Use Muscle Power
#49 Cars
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips, and I will only use muscle-powered transportation for all other trips.
Food
Keep Track of Wasted Food
#3 Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the EcoChallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Online Energy AuditWhat are your next steps for saving energy?
Kati Jackson 4/10/2018 9:14 AMgot a good rating on the online energy audit. Unfortunately, not much we can do in the way of major improvements as we are tenants. But we can reduce electricity usage and make sure all the bulbs are efficient. Our landloard does have solar on the farm, and uses that for the other units... so that's good. -
Kati Jackson 4/05/2018 3:41 PMmade sure to stop at the store on the way to work instead of making a special trip later-
Liz Zavodsky (EcoChallenge Staff) 4/05/2018 4:43 PMLove those consolidated trips!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Support Local Food SystemsDependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these advantages inspire you the most?
Kati Jackson 4/05/2018 3:40 PMIt's inspiring to live in a place where CSAs are commonplace. I look forward to renewing my membership this year. but i'm also inspired by my friends and colleagues to continue planting my own garden! today i had a salad from my own garden!-
brenda fletchall 4/05/2018 4:26 PMi bet it tasted the best! i'm looking forward to starting a small garden this year (once the freezes are done). it'll be my first.
