  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

In knowing that I'm keeping track of anything I'll throw out I've been sure to keep portions modest.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

Eat less beef and minimize consumption of palm oil.

Electricity Generation Support Companies Leading in Green Energy
Every dollar you put into solar or wind is a dollar not put into traditional financial institutions. You'll also be bolstering the fossil fuel divestment movement, too. What are some companies you know of that invest in green energy, and how can you support them?

Many news outlets today discussed that all of Apple's offices, stores and datacenters run on clean energy. Now onto looking at the impacts of materials and the energy it takes to make them. Also Patagonia purchases a large % of green power.

Today I was thrilled to learn a lot more about a new material - Kebony - which is an alternative to tropical hardwoods like ipe. It comes from FSC wood and is just as durable.

That's cool! I'll have to look up Kebony. I've never heard of it.

Habitat :), if only I could always live in the forest. Timber, provided it is sourced sustainably, and clean air and water. Also the intangible benefits recreation and peace.

Find the leaks :) and also insulate. It is amazing how many of the original houses in Austin were poorly (or not) insulated. Also be sure to insulate the the rim joist / truss depth!
