  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Use Public Transit
How has your access to various kinds of transporation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?

I use public transportation almost everyday for school and violin. The majority of the Portland area has good transit, so I carpool to a train station and take that to school, and take the school bus home. On days that I have a violin lesson after school, I usually take public transportation to the train station near my neighborhood, and take a shuttle back to my house. I have the option of taking one of my parents cars, but parking is expensive, and they need them sometimes depending on when my mom has to meet with her clients or when my dad can bike to work.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Try Carpooling
Take a moment to think of places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?

I live in a neighborhood where there is no public transportation, and the school bus is unreliable so it would be easy for me to just drive to school or the nearby train station most days. I instead carpool with my friend and her brother every day to a train station ten minutes away not only because it's easier, but it also saves a lot more gas releasing less CO2.

Transport Research and Advocate for High-Speed Rail
What are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety.

Over the weekend, I went to my friends house to prepare some stuff for our other friends birthday. We had to go to some stores downtown and I was gonna drive there, but parking is pretty crowded and expensive there. Instead of looking for some other places to drive to, I researched trimet stops and found a bus that takes us directly to where we needed to go, and saved quite a bit of gas. I also take the train to school every day instead of driving since there's a lot of traffic that time of day so it gets me to school faster.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Install a Low-Flow Showerhead
What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

I found a low flow shower head I got years ago but never installed it, so I did over the weekend. I have also tried to save water in other ways by taking shorter showers and washing dishes by hand while using the dishwasher less. Many areas around the world are running out of clean and usable water so hopefully more people will do this which can help.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings and Cities Replace Manual Thermostats
How do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for smart ones will positively impact your life?

My family already has a thermostat that has been programed to only go off at certain times and heat the house to certain temperatures to save energy. We also make sure that it doesn't have to be on too much by making sure our windows and doors are properly insulated by locking them whenever possible and replacing the foam underneath every so often.
