Here in Sweden, the world’s first electrified road just opened. It charges vehicles as they drive, via an electrified groove:

I’m in Sweden visiting my family, and here, if you need bags at the grocery store, you have to pay for them. Every time. No free bags! Makes the whole shopping experience  a little different.

Coffee is another cause of deforestation. But there is good news today! Coffee producers — including Jacobs Douwe Egberts, Louis Dreyfus Company, Nestle and Olam International — pledged to reduce deforestation and carry out reforestation initiatives. Check it out:

How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?

What do lipstick, peanut butter, dish detergent, pizza dough, and ice cream have in common? They often contain palm oil. Palm oil comes from palm trees, and it's in at least half the stuff we buy in supermarkets--which is why we lose 32 million acres of forest a year. I started reading labels in my house, and was feeling great because there was no palm oil (thank you, Trader Joe!) but then, alas, I found Wegman's Oyster Crackers!

    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Nicola Knipe's avatar
    Nicola Knipe 4/11/2018 4:37 PM
I'd never heard of Silvopasture (livestock grazing in the woods, not on open fields) but it makes so much sense! Healthier cows, reduced emissions, and better nutrition from an ecosystem of trees, plants, fungi, animals, and insects working together.

Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
Now that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?

    Nicola Knipe's avatar
    Nicola Knipe 4/10/2018 1:14 PM
"Best by," "sell by" and "expiration" dates are misleading, as watching a documentary on freegans (people who subsist on discarded food and products) makes clear.
