Jennifer Lin 4/20/2018 1:37 PMWhy did I join the challenge? Well, to be frank, I have never heard of this challenge till yesterday. I am just a curious person like many of us, and thus I joined. Doing challenges also distracts the mind from having to deal with the banal life that a student has to face after learning for many hours in school. Not saying that school is not right, but everything is based on a curriculum that everyone has to follow, leaving little room for actual "growth." Now what do I mean by "growth"? Isn't learning "growth"? Well, it is, but I believe that growth should not come from sitting in a desk all day and soaking in information. By the time you are done with school, how much of the information are you really going to use in your life or even remember? Oops, got off the topic a bit... But yeah, I believe that challenges provokes the real growth in the mind. And now, estoy aquí. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Jennifer Lin 4/20/2018 1:17 PMIt is the large amount of wealthy people that contributes to North America's populations to be eating more meat than other countries. The U.S. has the largest number of obese people out of all the other countries, mostly due to the vast number of fast food restaurants, and most fast food restaurants have meat included on their menus. Since the U.S. occupies a large portion of North America, it is a rather valid point to make would be that most North Americans value food, but value food by their taste as well. We could start shifting a meat-focused food culture by promoting the idea of having a healthier diet since having too much of something is not good for you. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Jennifer Lin 4/20/2018 12:55 PMI have not heard of the term silvopasture before now. I think the biggest advantage of silvopasture is providing livestocks a more comfortable and beneficial environment and condition. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Jennifer Lin 4/19/2018 2:58 PMI would donate most of this money to fundraisers for those who are homeless, in starvation or poverty. It is necessary for the world to know that there are people out there who actually need the $1500 worth of food, even $15.00 can feed a whole family! People need to stop throwing away that much food.
