Land Use Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

It is overwhelming to think about trying to protect forestlands-in light of the insatiable appetite people have for land use. I am hopeful based on this exercise, that we can be more aware, and thoughtful about land, and it's many complexities, and all the things that can come from a few acres!

Land Use Support Indigenous Peoples' Land Management
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

Any action we do is about finding balance. The balance of soil and sun, warmth and cool, all plays in to what will grow and survive, balance of covering the soil, with forest to keep soil in place, while having crops that can feed the earths creatures,;that is true sustainability.

I found the descriptions of low til farming, and keeping vegetation waste on the soil even with the next planting to be fascinating facts, and I learned a lot. I really like the multi use land ideas, with tree crops and low lying crops coexisting.

We have recently put solar panels on our home, and we hope to power an electric smart car in a few years, using solar energy. The research about electric cars and bicycles is all part of this goal!

Transport Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

Noise pollution is also so much less with electric or hybrid vehicles. I am interested also in electric bicycles as an option for both transportation and fun, in hilly towns like Asheville.
