REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Explore Other Electricity Generation SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Kathy Masis 4/23/2018 6:50 PMI didn't know what biomass was until I read this.
"Concentrated solar" is what I have always called just "solar."

REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Explore Other Buildings and Cities SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Kathy Masis 4/18/2018 8:38 PMI had never heard of district heating! There are several challenges that our city is already addressing. We have a coalition advocating a Commission to oversee an energy audit of city operations, make a goal of reduced GHG emissions with a plan for more energy efficiency in municipal operations. We met with the city mayor yesterday. Lots of work to do. I will study this area more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Keep Track of Wasted FoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Kathy Masis 4/17/2018 9:58 PMThis is real. Today I enjoyed chard with my supper. I cut off the end of the stalk and put it in the compost. I could have eaten more of the stalk! I even like it. But what about the very end?-
Kathy Masis 4/18/2018 8:24 PMThe challenge says keep track of wasted food including: "scraps from food preparation that were thrown away."
I would like to hear more about why we keep track of scraps.
-
Anderson Rose 4/18/2018 5:28 AMIt seems like it's not really wasted if it went in the compost?!

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Kathy Masis 4/15/2018 10:32 PMI have been eating chicken and not calling it "meat" before this challenge.
And I make a casserole and it lasts for days, I have it for both lunch and dinner. So I have not met my challenge.
I like the term "plant-rich diet" better than vegan since it doesn't totally exclude some animal-based food. I was treated for iron-deficiency anemia a few months ago. I need to look closely at my diet. -
Kathy Masis 4/10/2018 5:46 PMI went food shopping today and I was aware of the sizes of the portions/food I was buying. This works! -
Kathy Masis 4/07/2018 3:02 PMSo far I have noticed that the wasted food was leftovers. Making too much in the first place. Then not freezing the leftovers. -
Kathy Masis 3/31/2018 6:57 PM -
Kathy Masis 3/31/2018 6:55 PMI think my problem with wasting food has to do with meal planning. Especially perishable foods I buy and don't cook. Doing the daily log I'll find out if that's the issue and probably some more!-
Anderson Rose 4/02/2018 7:09 AMMe too! I buy veggies with the very best of intentions but don't always get to them all.

Kathy Masis 3/30/2018 10:11 AMI'm delighted that CCL members are joining this project. Drawdown brings me hope. Now I need to get started on "doing" the solutions.
