Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Eliminate Toxic Plastics
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I use too many disposable ziplocks and have been making an effort to use glass containers for my work snacks :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    Cat McGee's avatar
    Cat McGee 4/25/2018 12:12 PM
While I incorporate many of the "R's" into my lifestyle, I could definitely improve on Reduce.  Only buy items from Amazon Prime that are truly needed and can't be borrowed.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Biomass
Had you ever heard of biomass techonology before this? What did you learn that surprised you? Share this with your friends!

    Cat McGee's avatar
    Cat McGee 4/25/2018 12:09 PM
I've heard of biomass energy technology before, but didn't realize crops could also be burned for energy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Watch a Video about Methane Digesters
What does your vision of a sustainable community look like? What would need to be changed in order for such vision to become reality?

    Cat McGee's avatar
    Cat McGee 4/25/2018 12:07 PM
To me, a more sustainable community creates more cohesive neighborhoods and reduces McMansions
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Go Paperless
What do you want to prioritize over material 'stuff' in your own life?

    Cat McGee's avatar
    Cat McGee 4/25/2018 12:05 PM
I prioritize relationship, experiences and having an active lifestyle over 'stuff.'  Minimalism baby!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

    Cat McGee's avatar
    Cat McGee 4/25/2018 12:04 PM
Walking and biking helps me feel like a part of the community.  It's easier to keep track of new businesses and promotions.  I can feel the seasons change and run into friends and former colleagues while walking!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transport Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

    Cat McGee's avatar
    Cat McGee 4/25/2018 12:02 PM
I don't have a car, but would consider a green vehicle if the day ever comes.  Less smog is better for the environment and everyone's lungs!
