  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Learn about Local Indigenous Practices
What did you learn about indigenous peoples' land management that you can apply in your own life?

I learned that in 2016 a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde went on a hunger strike for five days outside the state Capitol in September to highlight the tribes' objections to the impact on their fishing rights. It was in response to Hood River County voting in May of 2016 to ban water-bottling plants, but the town of Cascade Locks still wants the business, and is working to overrule voters in the courts.

I learned that Drawdown separates their food solutions into two sections: consumer-side solutions and supply-side solutions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
Now that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?

    Zahra Sherman 4/12/2018 11:10 AM
I learned that the majority of food labels, including “sell by,” “use by” and “best if used by,” are food manufacturers’ suggestions for peak freshness and taste, rather than indicators of food safety or health concerns.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Support Local Food Systems
Dependable fresh food, supporting local farmers and building resilient communities are just a few benefits of local food systems. Which of these advantages inspire you the most?

I ate a meal from hot lips pizza, a company which prioritizes sourcing from local farms
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

    Zahra Sherman's avatar
    Zahra Sherman 4/06/2018 10:59 AM
I found that when I make a conscious effort to look for products that are made by women owned companies it is not that hard.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

How can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?

I did not have coffee, which is one of the 4 foods that onegreenplanet.org labels as the worst foods that contribute to deforestation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

    Zahra Sherman 4/04/2018 10:36 AM
This is an easy goal for me to complete because I am vegetarian already. I don't think that the meat and dairy industries are ethical at all which makes it easier for me to not eat these foods.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Women and Girls Start a Social Media Campaign
How are people responding to the statistics you're sharing on social media?

    Zahra Sherman's avatar
    Zahra Sherman 4/04/2018 10:32 AM
I shared that women around the world aged 15-44 are more at risk from rape and domestic violence than from cancer, car accidents, war and malaria. Hmmm.... not that impressivee
