Land Use Support Indigenous Peoples' Land Management
Indigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?

I have been a yearly supporter of the Nature Conservancy for many years, as I think they are a unique organization in the way their mandate sequesters and protects natural areas of Canada for all of us species who call this home, now and in the future. I am proud to support such an important organization!

    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

Our large land mass and history of animal herds has led us to eating more meat than other countries with less of these resources. This resource has increasingly fuelled the fast food industry over the past half-century which has significantly shifted North American values and ways of living. More basic awareness of the impact of our meat-focused food culture is needed in order to create a shift that will lead to positive change!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?

Other benefits may include a healthier digestive system and body for myself, as well as being a role model for my children.
