REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Smaller PortionsFun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?
Christa Wehrle 4/10/2018 1:45 PMIn addition to the environmental impact of using smaller plates and dishing smaller portions - there is also a health benefit. Because it takes time for our brain to tell us we're full, dishing smaller portions and then going back for more if we need, provides the necessary time for us to feel full. This can help prevent overeating and obesity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Christa Wehrle 4/10/2018 1:40 PMI think people in America eat more meat because it's extremely cheap - compared to other countries. One way to help shift our meat-focused food culture would be for the USDA and the Department of Health and Human Services to update their guidelines to encourage Americans to choose vegetables, fruits, legumes, and nuts over meat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Christa Wehrle 4/05/2018 7:13 AMI hadn't heard the term silvopasture before now. I think the largest advantage is that this process allows us to get the most from the land while improving soil and water quality and protecting wildlife habitats. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Online Energy AuditWhat are your next steps for saving energy?
Christa Wehrle 4/05/2018 7:04 AMOur house is very efficient, scoring higher than 90% of the homes in my city. But there are some things I can do to be even more efficient. Our home currently has a mix of incandescent and CFLs. I will work to switch ALL bulbs in our home to ENERGY STAR certified CFLs.
