Been doing great on avoiding plastic!  I definitely need to continue to work on avoiding it, but I feel like its only up from here!

What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

There are a decent amount of single-use items that I will be getting rid of.  I will now only be buying unpackaged vegetables, and I will not use the plastic bags at the grocery store.  I would also like to stop using single-use flossers.  They are mainly plastic and I use them far too often when I could be using string floss that is eco-friendly.  I will also be ceasing my use of straws as much as possible.  I like to go to bars and restaurants, so stopping using straws will make a decent effort.   I would also like to stop buying plastic containers for spices, food, and other various household items.  This one will be harder to avoid, but I am going to try my hardest to buy paper packaged items as much as possible.

I was able to cut back on buying plastics, but want to challenge myself more before i click complete on the plastics challenge.

What would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?

In order to achieve a sustainable water stance in the US, most all citizens need to stop taking it for granted so much.  We are accustomed to water parks, pools, long showers and watering our yards for hours.  We need to cut this back drastically.  In fact, I believe that Americans need a complete make-over to how we treat water.  Give the drought in California for example.   Many people from all over the world have traveled to live in Los Angeles or other nearby metropolises, which in turn absolutely burnt the city out.  The region was already not meant for high water consumption, so the boom in population caused a sooner, rather than later, drought.

How can you advocate for transportation systems which minimize environmental impact while also meeting human needs?

Sometimes is it hard to get people to want to ride the bus.  Everyone is so used to driving their cars everywhere, that riding the bus sounds like a terrible option to them.  This is very frustrating, as usually their actions are out of pure laziness.  I love to tell people of the benefits I find for riding the bus.  Obviously, it is much better for the environment, but for some people this is not enough of an incentive.  I like letting people know of the freedom that riding the bus gives you.  By taking the bus you now have some extra time to yourself maybe to finish a book, work on homework, start a small crafting project, or even to catch up with friends if you ride together.  I also advocate for the bus by reminding people of how stressful and expensive driving everywhere is.  I hope more people will let go of their lifestyle and stop driving cars!

I was glad to check off quite a few challenges while choosing.  I know I need to do more, but I felt proud of what I currently do.  This week, I will be installing a low flow shower head in my home to reduce water waste.  I will also be picking up litter at all the bus stops I go to.  I ride the bus and bike everywhere, so this should be a great goal to reduce waste and make riding the bus more appealing to other drivers.
