    In a study done by Orb Media, plastic fibers were found in 83% of drinking water samples and 93% of bottled water samples tested.

    There are so many consumer products made of vinyl. I needed to buy a bath mat but did not want to break my pledge to avoid toxic plastics. With a bit of searching, I found a natural rubber mat as an alternative. Yay!

    I learned a bit about biochar this weekend.  It appears that traditionally Amazonian people slowly burned agricultural waste in pits with low oxygen rather than the slash and burn method prolific now.  The resulting biochar sequesters carbon AND increases soil health and productivity due to its porous nature and ability to increase nutrient retention and microbiological growth.

    I had been successful at avoiding disposable plastics until tonight. We went to a Thai restaurant, our Tupperware containers in tow for leftovers. However, our server saw our toddler and automatically brought out a disposable plastic cup and straw. She was just trying to be helpful but....
