    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

Habit. Even meat lovers will go for food that tastes good without it, but they have to try it first. It's hard to try new things, and if you don't know how to cook something it won't end up tasting good. But it can be done. Getting people to try new things - free food sampling is one way (like samples at grocery stores, or food trucks offering small samples of their veggie items etc.)

Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

I don't think I throw quite that much away (and I compost as much as I can when I have to get rid of something). I did have to dump the last of a gallon of milk the other day. What money I would save I'd probably either save or spend toward running somehow.

I cleaned the bathroom this weekend using old t-shirts as rags instead of using paper towels.

I also picked up 6 recyclables on my run this morning (there's a lot more trash out there than that, but that's all I could hold on to without carrying a trash bag.) Breakfast is almost always vegetarian.

All I did was pick up trash and recyclables near the bus stop, but I picked up 2 full bags of trash and a 5 gal bucket of recyclable materials. It's close to my house so hopefully I'll be able to go back fairly regularly to keep it a little neater. If I can figure out a way to plant flowers I might do that later when the weather is better.
