REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Go by BikeHow does using human-powered transportation make you feel?
Jamie Jacquart 4/18/2018 1:34 PMIt really fees refreshing to get back out on a bike! It turns out that my ride to work takes me down a trail, across a stone bridge, and through some amazing natural spaces. It was a far more relaxing way to get to work than fighting my way through the long lines of morning traffic! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Explore Other Transport SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Jamie Jacquart 4/13/2018 9:18 AMIt's exciting to see improvements to airplane designs. Lighter materials and more fuel efficient designs combined with fuels made from algae are all making a huge difference! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Properly Dispose of RefrigerantsHow do you address your own feelings of concern, fear or despair about climate change?
Jamie Jacquart 4/11/2018 12:49 PMI try and remain mindful of the fact that I make hundreds of decisions a day. Many of them have a less impactful effect on the world, and when possible, I try and do that. While I am not perfect, I can strive to do better today and learn how I can make less of an impact tomorrow. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Install a Toilet BankHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Jamie Jacquart 4/11/2018 12:48 PMA quick internet search showed that I could either buy a $5 bag, fill it with sand, and put it into my toilet tank, OR use a brick. I opted for the brick, as I have several of them lying around the house as door stops. Easy peasy! -
Jamie Jacquart 4/04/2018 8:47 AMMake sure that after you've done your daily challenge to follow it up with a reflection. Not only does it generate more points for our team, it's a great way to synthesize the information so that it's firmly in your memory! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Explore Other Electricity Generation SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Jamie Jacquart 4/04/2018 8:46 AMI was intrigued to see the variety of generation options that are out there. Most fascinating was the chart showing both the potential for each type relative to their actual progress towards that. There is so much room for growth in this area. If only we could stop subsidizing the fossil fuel industry and put those investments into these new, alternative methods of generating electricity, we would see innovation at an incredible rate! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal EnergyGeothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?
Jamie Jacquart 4/04/2018 8:43 AMKudos to both Cornell U. and Stanford U. as both of them are exploring the possibility of using deep, geo-thermal wells to get their campus energy. While an expensive up-front cost, the lifetime operating costs are so low it makes this a great alternative, with ZERO GHG emissions! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
Jamie Jacquart 4/04/2018 8:41 AMWhile this requires some technological improvements, here on the SouthCoast of Massachusetts, there are many promising opportunities for this! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Give a MicroloanGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. Why do you think that is?
Jamie Jacquart 4/02/2018 8:04 AMWomen typically put their families and local communities first. They understand what the needs are and direct their resources towards solving them quickly. This often includes local sources that they have learned about through their personal connections with others in the community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWomen and Girls Support Women-Owned BusinessesGlobally, women typically invest a higher proportion of their earnings in their families and communities than men. How can you better support communities by supporting women?
Jamie Jacquart 4/02/2018 7:57 AMWhen we were looking for a catering company for a campus event, it was important to us to find one that was owned by women. Supporting a woman-owned business helps ensure that the pay-equity gap is being eliminated.
