Blake 's actions
Transport
Test Drive an Electric Bike
#69 Electric Bikes
I will test drive an electric bike at a local distributor to see if it makes sense to use one in place of my car, or to extend the area I can cover by bike.
Food
Keep Track of Wasted Food
#3 Reduced Food Waste
I will keep a daily log of food I throw away during the EcoChallenge, either because it went bad before I ate it, I put too much on my plate, or it was scraps from food preparation.
Materials
Recycle Everything I Can
#55 Household Recycling
I will recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community.
Women and Girls
Fund Family Planning
#7 Family Planning
I will donate to supply a community with reproductive health supplies.
Buildings and Cities
Online Energy Audit
Multiple Solutions
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Electricity Generation
Learn More About Geothermal Energy
#18 Geothermal
I will spend at least 10 minutes learning more about the energy generation potential of geothermal energy and consider investing in this technology.
Transport
Try Carpooling
#75 Ridesharing
I will commute by carpool 5 mile(s) per day and avoid sending up to 7.28 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Food
Support Local Food Systems
#4 Plant-Rich Diet
I will source 1 meal(s) from local producers each day. This could include signing up for a local CSA, buying from a farmer's market, visiting a food co-op, foraging with a local group, or growing my own ingredients.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
#4 Plant-Rich Diet
I will enjoy 1 meatless or vegan meal(s) each day of the challenge.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Blake Phillips 4/19/2018 8:26 AMI went to new seasons and got an Impossible Burger. Its a meatless burger that still has a juice inside the meat. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportTake a moment to think of places you frequent often (work, grocery store, natural areas). Could you choose one or two days a week to schedule driving with a friend, neighbor or co-worker to these places?
Blake Phillips 4/19/2018 8:23 AMI have just been doing simple carpools, asking my friends if they need rides and getting picked up by my friends if they are coming by house. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you feel that these facts apply to you? If so, how might you incorporate an electric bike into your lifestyle?
Blake Phillips 4/09/2018 12:44 PMI drove my friends moms electric Bike and it was very cool and surprisingly fast. I don't know if it could replace a car because I need to bring things like my lacrosse gear around town and it won't fit on a bike. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
Blake Phillips 4/09/2018 1:11 AMI have been really good about not throwing away food. More importantly, I have been better at managing how much food to prepare or order so there are no extras. The only thing I have thrown away so far has been half a milkshake. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterialsHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Blake Phillips 4/06/2018 8:30 AMI usually always recycle all of the waste possible in my house. Therefore, it shouldn't to be very difficult to continue this. I will continue to repair objects in order to stay more sustainable.
