This video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oU8Jw24e68) was really helpful for understanding which geological, political, and economic conditions make an area feasible for investment in geothermal energy.  (The speaker was pretty negative about the prospects of switching from fossil fuels to wind and solar, but hey, she's a geologist.)  I now see how much investment needs to go into evaluating a site for its geothermal potential before investing in it.  I was also surprised to see the parallels between geothermal energy extraction and fracking technologies -- and rather than concerns about drilling fluid used in fracking, geothermal energy introduces the possibility of microbiological contamination for subsurface aquifers.  Anyway, it's an interesting technology for areas that meet certain, specific criteria.

I hadn't previously realized how many different varieties of wave and tidal wave energy are available.  Back when I studied energy generation methodologies in 2004-2005, there were fewer options available.  I'm also impressed with how they've solved some of the concerns about biofouling.  Modern technologies are much more easily raised above the water or towed into port for servicing.
