    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

I think that marketing, the Standard American Diet suggested by the U.S. government as the way to eat, and Big Farms have contributed to the fact that North Americans eat more meat than other country. the United States is a land of consumers driven by marketing and legislation that is impacted by those who have the most to gain financially.  We need to prioritize the health of our planet as well as our personal health over the financial gains being catered to with Big Farms and Big Pharma.

The first place to begin shifting the focus to a more plant-based food culture is through education.  People are yearning for happier and healthier lifestyles and that begins by choosing with what we put into our mouths.  There is definitely positive strides being made in this area.  As we begin to understand how food affects us personally, we will also learn how our food choices impact the planet we call home.

Not only is this a delicate balance environmentally but also one that has economic impact. It's time to start driving where we want the world to go through the choices we make in our lifestyles which include our diet, purchases and investments.  It's time to invest in a future that we might not live to see but that we can impact with the choices we make every single day!

    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

I had not heard of the term Silvopasture before now.  I love that it is a great way to counteract the methane emission of livestock, that it is a financially feasible way for someone to ranch and farm, reaping the financial and environmental benefits from both, and that it has the potential to help alleviate drought and erratic weather.

    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?

Benefits of using a smaller plate include eating healthier portions and thus keeping weight in control. As written in Selina Juul's blog, "we tend to like our plates to be fairly full. By reducing the size of the plate, you ensure that you don’t overfeed yourself or the trash bin." Those two reasons alone are all that I need to start eating on smaller plates!

As I am trying to be a good steward of the gifts that have been given to me, it's very important that I look for, purchase and use products and items that have a high, positive environmental impact. I feel that although I am one small person, I am part of a greater whole that is making the world a better place for generations to come.
