REFLECTION QUESTIONTransport Research and Consider Switching to a Hybrid or Electric VehicleReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
Claudia Borchert 4/25/2018 5:43 PMI have a PV system so the fuel would be generated from the sun and is already a sunk cost -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Claudia Borchert 4/25/2018 5:39 PMFor about 30 meals a year, I'm not sure where the meat comes from, and if it is beef, that is likely impacting deforestation. Also coffee, tropical fruit (e.g.coconut, mango, pineapple) and cheap palm oil in processed food.
Stop eating processed food; eat less meat of unknown origin, buy at the farmer's market; eat seasonally and locally; -
REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Buy BambooAre bamboo alternatives readily available in your community? If not, what are other sustainable alternatives?
Claudia Borchert 4/25/2018 5:36 PMYes, generally at big box stores. And there's Amazon. Hemp is a viable alternative, and there is a small local hemp store. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhat do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?
Claudia Borchert 4/25/2018 5:35 PMTHe culture of the West; the habits of the wealthy.
I think we need to have more people pledge to eat less/no meat and explaining to their friends/ family why they are doing so, so that it becomes more of a thing. All food needs to pay true cost, whether it is environmental damage, cleanup, carbon footprint, etc. If meat were 4-10X more expensive, people would eat less. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about SilvopastureHad you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?
Claudia Borchert 4/25/2018 5:32 PMI had not heard of silvopature before. Multiple advantages: more climate-change resilient pasture ecosystem; the land has stacked economic functionality (e.g. beef/milk + trees + shrooms +tree nuts/maple syrup) all from; better production from the grazers; less erosion; -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Communicate With My Elected OfficialsWhat inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Micro WindMicro turbines can be placed on large structures to take advantage of stronger, steadier breezes. The Eiffel Tower now sports vertical axis turbines that produce electricity for use on site. Where could micro turbines potentially be installed in your city?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn More about Regenerative AgricultureClean air, clean water and healthy food are three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. In what ways can you support your closest regenerative agriculture farm?
-
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Research Heat PumpsWhy do you care about taking action on climate change?
Claudia Borchert 4/23/2018 12:00 PMI'm concerned about the potential mass-extinction of all manner of flora and fauna and many of the earth's ecosystems. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Zero-waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Claudia Borchert 4/09/2018 3:59 PMSave those parts and cook down in a soup, then add to my compost for my worms, and use compost to grow food!-
Ashley Zappe 4/09/2018 4:02 PMThanks for posting! Our team is almost caught up!
