  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Smaller Portions
Fun fact: Your brain and stomach register feelings of fullness after about 20 minutes of eating. While dishing food out, we tend to load our plates with more than we need. Using smaller plates helps to mitigate this. Aside from the environmental benefits, what other benefits might come out of this?

I've been intentionally using smaller plates this week in an effort to reduce food waste. In addition to the environmental benefits, this is also a boost for my health!

It was great to connect with eight of my colleagues virtually today, allowing us to move forward on our planning efforts while honoring our collective desire to decrease our carbon footprint.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

This time of year, when the bush honeysuckle is beginning to leaf out, it can feel overwhelming to see how this invasive species is taking over the local landscape. I find hope in knowing there is a growing number of community members who are actively working to remove honeysuckle from their own yards, community parks, and area woodlands. I pulled a half-dozen small bushes from my yard last weekend. We have to start somewhere . . . with many people removing invasive plants one at at time, we'll have a considerable collective impact overall.
