    What I learned...
PALM OIL IS IN 50% OF ALL CONSUMER GOODS. Big yikes. By reading content labels one can spot palm oil in a product if the word is or contains: palm (palmate, etc), stear (stearate, etc), kernel. The ingredient elaeis guineensis is also palm. Avoid those products. There are palm oil free product lists available online.
3 CUPS OF COFFEE PER DAY (MY INTAKE) = 18 COFFEE TREES TO SUPPORT MY HABIT. Buy organic, fair trade, shade grown coffee that is grown closest to home (shorter transport) and that is roasted locally.
CHOCOLATE- BUY PRODUCTS DISPLAYING RAINFOREST ALLIANCE GREEN FROG LOGO. Would like to think that because I prefer licorice I'm on the better path.
MEAT-DAIRY-EGGS- CHOOSE PLANT-BASED FOODS PREFERENTIALLY and locally, organically and humanely-raised.

Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
Now that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?

Expiration dates (use, sell, best by) refer to QUALITY of the food, not SAFETY of the food. I've never paid much attention to the dates in my home storage... do not dispose of foods based on them. I have chosen not to buy foods based on these dates. I do have friends and relatives who pay close attention and immediately throw food away based on the dates. It seems like the food producers must have been behind putting these dates on food products in the first place. All part of our "disposable everything" culture. Very wasteful.

I've had several discussions about this in the last couple of days. Who knew? Will definitely spread the word!

Thanks for sharing about expiration dates. Interesting! Hopefully your relatives have composting bins.
