    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

Access to meat and the fact that vegetarian/vegan options at restaurants are more expensive or non-existent sometimes. The Guardian had a good article about the Vegan movement becoming mainstream; they talked about the movement changing from anger to acceptance and from going from all or nothing to "sometimes vegan" is still okay. People need exposure to it in order to realize what foods they actually can eat without meat involved--it's not just lettuce and salads.

If everyone ate meat half the time, it'd be like half the people eating meatless all the time!

    Transport Use Muscle Power
How do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking or driving?

I have more conversations with people on the bus or walking. When I drive, people seem a lot angrier.

True that! I remember one day I was on my bike and was next to a woman in her SUV with the window down and she was literally SCREAMING at the traffic because people weren't turning right on a red light.

To be honest, though, I like myself the least when I drive. It is so easy to be impatient and get angry when you're stuck in a metal box in traffic.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?
