REFLECTION QUESTIONLand Use Forest-Friendly Foods 1How is your diet currently impacting deforestation? What can you do to decrease your negative impact and increase your positive impact?
Pooja Kashyap 4/25/2018 8:54 AMI drink a cup (or more) of coffee every day. I'm now going to look for the shade-grown or rainforest alliance certification on the coffee I buy. I'm still unclear about where Stumptown stands on all of this... -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Learn the Truth About Expiration DatesNow that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?
Pooja Kashyap 4/25/2018 8:53 AMEvery week when we get groceries, I write the use by, sell by, and freeze by dates on the refrigerator white board. This has helped us reduce food waste. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONElectricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal EnergyWhat did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?
Pooja Kashyap 4/25/2018 8:52 AM"The United States receives 2,100 terawatt-hours of incident wave energy along its coastlines each year, and tapping just one quarter of this potential could produce as much energy as the entire U.S. hydropower system. Oregon and Washington have the strongest wave energy resource in the lower 48 states and could eventually generate several thousand megawatts of electricity using wave resources. Several sites in Washington’s Puget Sound with excellent tidal resources could be developed, potentially yielding several hundred megawatts of tidal power." -
REFLECTION QUESTIONBuildings and Cities Explore Other Buildings and Cities SolutionsWhat did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?
Pooja Kashyap 4/25/2018 8:49 AMOut of the 10 building solutions identified, we do almost all of these! The list was building automation, green roofs, heat pumps, insulation, LED lighting, net-zero buildings, retrofitting, smart glass, smart thermostats, and solar hot water. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONMaterials Eliminate Toxic PlasticsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Pooja Kashyap 4/25/2018 8:40 AMWe switched out our plastic vegetable bags for washable mesh ones- we found them in the fresh produce area at Fred Meyer. -
