Higher standards of living are very often dependent on moving our environmental costs elsewhere. What are some specific ways in which the environmental impacts of your own lifestyle might be shifted elsewhere?

My use of a gasoline powered car impacts many areas both where the raw materials are sourced and where the oil is drilled in Nigeria, the Middle East and parts of the US.

What are the factors that influence your choice of transportation? These can include things like money, time, and convenience, as well as perceptions of danger or safety.

Among the factors which impact my choice of transportation are convenience, cost, impact on the environment, and safety, not ncessarily in that order.

Why do you care about taking action on climate change?

I believe that if each of us takes action each day that we can reduce the impact of global warming or climate change. This will protect our species and many others from the risk of extinction.

Hard to believe we're at the last day of the EcoChallenge.  What a ride.  I've learned a lot about a variety of solutions from the Drawdown Team these past few weeks. I've also become more cognizant about the habits I have developed to tread more lightly on our beloved planet. Thanks NWEI for creating this awesome game!

We'd love to hear from people who are working with Drawdown materials and children ages 6-15.  We think this is an audience that will respond positively  to the message of Drawdown and we're just starting to consider how best to make this happen.  We welcome your input and suggestions.

Rachel Valletta, Ph.D. to speak as part of the 2018 Philadelphia Science Festival on Wednesday, April 25 at Frankford Hall, 1210 Frankford Ave., Philadelphia.

Rachel Valletta is the Environmental Scientist at The Franklin Institute. Rachel earned a Ph.D. in earth and environmental science from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research specializes in reconstructing the climate of the past from Antarctic glacial records. She enjoys working to understand how people learn and communicate about climate change because climate change is perhaps the single greatest challenge facing modern civilization, but not everyone sees it that way.

I am, going to a workshop to learn about Tower Gardening - something that is being done in some NJ schools.  It is really hydroponic gardening.  There is going to be an opportunity to see someone creating her tower in about 2 weeks.  I  understand there may be grant money available to start implementing something like this in schools..

According to The Guardian, "Cotton buds, plastic drinking straws and other single-use plastics could be banned from sale in England next year in the next phase of the campaign to try to halt the pollution of the world’s rivers and oceans.

Theresa May hopes to use the announcement to encourage the Commonwealth heads of government to join the fight as the meeting opens formally on Thursday. “The Commonwealth is a unique organisation with a huge diversity of wildlife, and environments – so it is vital we act now,” the prime minister will say, urging all Commonwealth countries to participate."
