    Materials Recycle Everything I Can
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

My main R is REFUSE, I refuse single use plastic as much as I can, I bring my own reusable steel bottle with me every where I go, actually last weekend I was in Baltimore and I refill my bottle at the airport and some other places they had a fountain water. I really wish we had more here in Houston. In case I don't have my bottle with me I get glass bottle instead of plastic and I REUSE it as many times possible, and at the end I take it to the recycling center, cause the glass can be recycle 100% and for so many times!. REPAIR my clothes, sewing them and avoid to buy cause I'm bored, or just because, after I watched the documentary "The real cost" made me realized how much my necessity of  getting new clothes affects my mother earth and how people is mistreated on third world countries, now whenever I go shopping I ask myself 1st if I really need it,  and I try my best to go to Thrift stores, also I just found the Clothing Loop which makes me keep doing this and trying to go minimalist too.

Food Learn the Truth About Expiration Dates
Now that you know the difference between use by, sell by, and best by dates, how will you view expiration dates differently?

    Erika Oropeza's avatar
    Erika Oropeza 4/24/2018 11:08 AM
I've learned that expiration date depends on the product we buy. I've always consumed the product after the expiration date, I usually smell it and see the texture, now that I know better I can be sure I was right and share this information with some friends and family who throw away food the very next day the expiration date. We as society need to learn more about this and make sure we are not throwing away food it could be eaten.
My question is, how can we ask stores to stop throwing good food? Can we start a petition asking stores to sell that food cheaper? Can they donate that food to homeless people? What can we do to stop this madness?

I read an article yesterday and enforce my urge to avoid plastic even more. There are so many things we can do, here is
a list of how we can reduce to almost zero our consume of plastic:
    • Invest on a steel bottle and cup, you can refill it and avoid plastic bottles and disposable cups.
    • Bring your own bags for groceries, in case you forgot, ask for paper bags and reuse them as many times possible and recycle them. So many stores give you an incentive if you do.
    • But on bulk and bring your own sack.
    • Say no to straws, if you need them, there are so many options such steel, glass, bamboo straws.
    • If you go out and gave leftovers you can use a mason jar or bring yourr container with you.
I'm sharing a picture with my bags for groceries, for when I  buy on bulk, if I get clothes or other things. As you can see it's not that difficult.

Picking up trash is my daily challenge, but even harder is not getting upset or start judging. I try so hard, but then I see more people doing it around the world and they pick up more trash than us, they are my motivation to keep doing this. I love my mother earth and all those innocent animals who get hurt or killed by our trash .

Wow!  Thank you for doing this!  It is so comforting to know other people pick up trash on the way by!

    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Erika Oropeza's avatar
    Erika Oropeza 4/11/2018 10:21 AM
No I hadn't heard about it before.
The advantage that I see on this is that animals can have a better life before they get killed. Also all this help the environment and might create less damage, as well we will have more trees and help to decrease the wildfires.

Yesterday I met someone from Waste Management, and we were talking about all the job WM does, I was surprise to learn what they do on the landfills, WM actually do Landfill Methane !! and she share more things and I was so happy to hear all that.

I told her that we as society need education, we as city need it so much! Until yesterday I didn't know much about Landfill Methane, today I read several articles and I will keep reading and looking for more information, as well I will share with friends.

This post is regarding the waste of food.
Last weekend a group of friends and I went to Round Top, TX. Yesterday morning when everybody was chatting and no one wanted to make breakfast, I decided to cook the leftovers with some eggs, I just couldn't let all that good food go to the trash can!  They finished the eggs with potatoes, the burgers  and some tortillas. How many times people just throw away good food cause of laziness? I have decided to be a doer instead of just staying thinking someone should do something about this or that.. I can be that person.

I try my best every single day. Thus is trash picked up on my street. The 2 bottles of plastic and cardborad will be recycled . The plastic rings hahaD

Rinhe were cut and disposed properly. Sadly many people don't care about their waste and just leave their trash anywhere they want,  so what can we expect about recycling?
I might go a little bit further and people might find me annoying, if i go to a party I'm the one who takes the empty glass and plastic bottles with me, if i can save them to end up in the landfills I will take all with me. Sorry but my eco warrior feeling is stronger than the shame.

It was very interesting learned how silvopasture can be so helpful for the environment. Love to see the animals be free and that they were enjoying the nature, I just wish they could live a long life and won't get killed, that's a different topic. Let's support local farmers and spread the word. This weekend I will visit a small town close to Austin, hopefully I will see some silvopasture, I will post pictures.
