Participant Feed

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Keep Track of Wasted Food
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Where would you rather use this money?

We really try to use leftovers at our house.  Sometimes we make more of a dish so that we have leftovers.  I think they sometimes taste better.  I know that at times we don't use things in time but we always feed the remains to our chickens so I don't feel as bad.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Eliminate Toxic Plastics
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/18/2018 5:11 AM
I try not to use any single-use items.
I always bring a reusable cup, water bottle, utensils.  I have a set of bamboo
    utensils that are great.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Communicate With My Elected Officials
What inspires you to act on sustainable energy and other energy issues?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/18/2018 5:09 AM
It is so important to keep this conversation going about renewable energy.  I feel like our government in DC and people in charge are totally against it all so it is going to take grassroots activists to continue the conversation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Transport Test Drive an Electric Bike
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Private vehicles account for 60% of trips of a mile or less. Do you feel that these facts apply to you? If so, how might you incorporate an electric bike into your lifestyle?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/18/2018 5:08 AM
We now have two Toyota Prius'.  They are the best cars but the new ones are all electric and that is what I want but since we now own both cars with no debt it is hard to pay for a new one.  Our next car will have to be a plug in.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings and Cities Explore Other Buildings and Cities Solutions
What did you find out? What is the most interesting fact you learned?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/18/2018 4:59 AM
There are so many different options out there for people and communities to look at.  We really need to become a Green Community so we can get the grant money to help with these projects.

I forget to sign in and do this everyday.  I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night and remember that I didn't sign in.  I hope to remember everyday.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Buildings and Cities Express My Support
How could better walking infrastructure make your city both more enjoyable and more equitable?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/17/2018 2:46 PM
Having sidewalks and paths that are accessible, kept up, clean and easy to walk on without getting hurt would be great.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transport Conduct Virtual Meetings
How can you ensure that your virtual meetings honor your values and your company's culture?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/17/2018 2:44 PM
We have a virtual meeting and then use a shared document to create the minutes.  Everyone can help and then no one individually has to take note
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
What do you think contributes to people in North America eating more meat than other countries, and what does this say about North American values and ways of living? How do we start shifting a meat-focused food culture?

    Ann Richard's avatar
    Ann Richard 4/17/2018 8:00 AM
We need to start educating more people on other options for meals.
