  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More About Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is reliable, abundant, and efficient. Project Drawdown states that public investment will play a crucial role in its expansion. What kind of investment seems most feasible for you?

Geothermal energy is a neat concept. I'd like to focus my investment in research to improve the technology and bring costs down.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Women and Girls Research Barriers to Participation and Representation
What are some of the barriers that exist to women's equal participation and/or representation in your community?

    Stephanie Trott's avatar
    Stephanie Trott 4/22/2018 6:20 PM
Ensuring that women are equally represented in all areas is important. In my own community, sexism, both blatant and subtle, contribute to gender inequality and representation.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Learn More about Wave and Tidal Energy
What did you learn about wave and tidal energy? Were you surprised by the information you found?

    Stephanie Trott's avatar
    Stephanie Trott 4/19/2018 8:53 AM
I learned that wave and tidal energy can potentially reduce annual carbon emissions by 9,000 tons. I was surprised to discover that not everywhere is a good candidate for wave energy, but the areas that are good candidates more than make up for it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Learn More about Regenerative Agriculture
Clean air, clean water and healthy food are three reasons to care about regenerative agriculture. In what ways can you support your closest regenerative agriculture farm?

    Stephanie Trott's avatar
    Stephanie Trott 4/15/2018 6:48 PM
I can support local regenerative agriculture farms by purchasing their produce and other products, joining their CSA if they have one, and educating others about the benefits of regenerative agriculture.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Land Use Learn about Temperate Forests
As you learn more about the scope and seriousness of the environmental challenges we face, what impact does that have on your thinking and actions? What are the parts that feel overwhelming? What parts help you feel hopeful?

    Stephanie Trott's avatar
    Stephanie Trott 4/13/2018 6:40 PM
Learning more about the environmental challenges we face is equal parts uplifting and disheartening. The more I learn, the more I realize that I can make choices that do make a difference and if everyone individually did the same, the collective impact would be huge. The disheartening part is the enormity and scale of the things that impact the environment, such as mass deforestation, makes it difficult to imagine that one person really makes a difference.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Learn More about Silvopasture
Had you heard of the term silvopasture" before now? After learning more about it, what do you think is the biggest advantage of silvopasture?

    Stephanie Trott's avatar
    Stephanie Trott 4/10/2018 3:56 PM
I'd never heard of silvopasture before this challenge. The biggest advantage of silvopasture is two-fold: enhancing biodiversity and enhancing healthy livestock and environments.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Materials Install a Toilet Bank
How can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?

    Stephanie Trott's avatar
    Stephanie Trott 4/09/2018 4:28 PM
We can make active choices to use less water and be aware of how our usage impacts others' water rights.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Electricity Generation Choose Renewable Energy or Purchase Renewable Energy Credits
Your utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your zipcode, and in your state. What steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?

    Stephanie Trott's avatar
    Stephanie Trott 4/09/2018 4:27 PM
I can make sure everything is unplugged and power strips are switched off. I can also make an effort to keep the thermostat low and utilize open windows instead of air conditioning.
