Spring is a great time to start composting at home if you don't already. Easy to do...and nice to use the compost in home gardens!

How are environmental issues like black carbon and other emissions from cooking fires or rudimentary cookstoves also human health and social justice issues?

Black carbon and other emissions from cooking fires are human health issues because they impact the quality of the air that people breathe and can cause respiratory illnesses. These emissions are also a social justice issue because they disproportionately affect women, who do the majority of the cooking around these stoves, and disadvantaged communities that don't have access to safer cooking stoves.

Traveling to a conference today and while I'm slightly .. um... particular about lightweight packing (think 5 days for me and son with only a single backpack), I decided to bring both a reuseable water bottle and coffee mug for this trip. Goal is to use the mug for the whole trip. No disposable plastic coffee lids for full 5 days.

I tried the Impossible burger today (better for biomass in general).

It was alright. I can see how it relates to meat, but I would rather just stick to real meat and eat said meat less often.

There are tons of native plant sales in Northern Virginia this spring - my personal favorite is the one at Long Branch Nature Center. Plant NOVA  Natives has lots of resources for selecting and planting native plants, and a list of all of the sales: http://www.plantnovanatives.org/home.html

We are very lucky that Capital Bike Share and other bike share options abound in the DC/VA/MD metro area. They are great for short trips when you don't/can't use your own bike, and for connecting with metro/busses. https://www.capitalbikeshare.com/
