When walking, I can interact much more easily with my neighbors and even meet some I haven't talked to before. 

I keep peelings, tops and stalks from vegetables and make vegetable broth with them for soups and stews. 

It is with gratitude that I write this final post.  We have all that we need provided on this earth.  And there is a beauty here that makes your soul radiate joy.   I hope to continue reducing my waste, composte more, rarely waste food, reduce energy and I hope to someday research adding solar.  In other words, the door is open to seeking ways...

This has been a meaningful and fun exercise.  I especially enjoyed logging the food waste. It would be interesting to log EVERYTHING I through out.  The exercise got Celeste and I to set up a compost system which we had in our previous house, but hadn't set up since moving 3 years ago.  Also re-focused effort to simply stay out of my car.  

Slowly. But happy to be involved.

I have an old thermostat which is kind of cool that is retro. But a new every efficient thermostat is more cool (or warm, I guess)..

I am so excited!  When we moved here three years ago, we lost the ability to compost.  With bears walking through our yard, we were confident an open compost system was not good.  For three years I struggled with putting the inedible veggie parts in the trash.  We endeavor to have minimal trash. Attended EarthX in Dallas Texas over last weekend - which was part of my work also.  The air plane ride was extravagant form the perspective of the CO2 footprint. But once on the ground in Dallas I only used my feet and the public transportation (rail) to get around.  Many meals were provided as parts of different conferences I participated in...

I am so fortunate to live in a place where the food system has become so readily localized. Almost all of the food-related actions are already part of my lifestyle.  On the other hand, living in the country requires lots of commuting.  We have 2 Priuses , which just shows that we don't have a good rideshare network.  Too busy, and too...
